Art by Tigrani (by Tigran Sarkisyan)
About Tigran Sarkisyan
Tigran Sarkisyan is a master of shaping 3D figures, be it in wax, wood or sterling silver jewlery. Tigran’s works brilliantly display movement, drama and excitement in subtle, gentle ways unknown to less talented designers in the field.
Tigran Sarkisyan was born on August 27, 1962 in Yerevan, Armenia. After graduating from high school, Tigran was accepted to the Polytechnic Institute with a full scholarship to major in architecture, industrial, and civil construction. In 1990 Tigran Sarkisyan became a member of the Ministry of culture of Armenia Republican Scientific Methodical center of Folk Art. When Tigran Sarkisyan came to America in 1991, he joined many art exhibitions and his love for designing and sculpting grew stronger.
Tigran’s work was soon acknowledged by famous people. He made a necklace aptly called Cleopatra for Elizabeth Taylor. The necklace subsequently appeared in the movie Cleopatra, leaving a deep imprint in the cultural history of global film and literature. Tigran also made a medallion set for the Russian Patriarch Alexey the Second, which continues to form part of the Royal collection today.
Following the tide of rising demand for gothic sterling silver jewelry, Tigran did research into the gothic and biker culture, immersed himself in it and gained inspiration for his line of sterling silver gothic jewelry pieces, which form a large part of Tigran' jewelry collection Art by Tigran. Tigran was the main artist at SKKIN jewelry (a Los Angeles-based jewelry company established by designer Jebron Jouni) and produced most of their best-known sterling silver designs. Tigran also pioneers Imperial Rose Collections alongside several distinguished partners.
Today, Armenians, Americans, Japanese and other cultural icons are wearing Tigran’s created jewelry. These icons include famous rock singers and musicians.
Tigran’s other exploits
Tigran has currently made over 10 exquisite types of chess sets. Most of the chess sets are made of silver and are gold plated, while others are pewter with copper plate.
In 2001, Tigran created a monumental sculpture dedicated to the 1700th Anniversary of Armenian Christianity entitled, St. Gregory the Illuminator-301. This monument is now located in Holy Etchmiadzin in the Alex Manoogian Museum.
While Tigran was working on the monument, he was simultaneously creating egg shaped figures made out of silver. The twelve figures are based on, and symbolize the bible, from the old testimony to the new testimony. One of the twelve eggs entitled “The Historical Armenian Egg” describes in brief, but stunningly artistic detail how Christianity began in Armenia.
In April 2005, Tigran finished another memorial monument entitled Armenians were, are, and will be. The Monument is dedicated to the 90th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of 1912, and is located in Armenia at the Armenian Genocide Museum/Institute Tsitsernakaberd of Yerevan. Tigran is still actively pursuing and conceptualizing fabulous new creations. Tigran plans, in the near future, to build a monument based on the Armenian writer, singer, songwriter Sayiad Nova and on the Armenian Epic Sasna Tsrer.
