King Baby Jewelry - A Punksilver writeup

Mitchell Binder is the designer, owner and brains behind the phenomenally prominent King Baby Studio sterling silver gothic jewelry luxury designer outfit. In the 70’s, when the adolescent Mitchell Binder and his mother uprooted from Jackson, Mississippi to LA California, the young and impressionable Binder found himself inevitably immersed in the punk culture, which arose from the ashes of the dying hippie culture.

Within the new environment of punk culture, music was a way for people to express a rising spirit of idealism & newfound freedoms. Cultural legends like Jimi Hendrix, Joplin and The Dead ruled the airwaves. As Mitchell puts it “it was the ‘summer of love’ & my mind was officially blown”. Such was the effect of the revival of art following the hippie culture.

At the young age of 15, Mitchell became a jeweler’s apprentice & promptly thereafter started conceptualizing his own jewelry pieces. Armed with his trademark charismatic personality, Mitchell Binder easily made poweful contacts and quickly went on to become the ‘go to man’ for both Hollywood & rock stars for all their gothic silver jewelry wants and needs. King Baby fans feature the influential Elizabeth Taylor to the rock & roll royalty of today. Another group of ardent patrons are bikers, who often request customized gothic sterling silver jewelry and gothic styled buckles. Being an avid rider himself, Mitchell always considers the origin of his label to be “half rock & roll and half outlaw biker.”

Starting off with designing with a male audience in mind, Mitchell Binder quickly saw that a group of women also enjoyed buying gothic sterling silver jewelry for themselves. In 2007, King Baby Studio publicly launched Queen Baby jewelry for women, with an extraordinary level of success.

Fast forward to today, the Santa Monica-based King Baby Studio offers individually crafted pieces which merge chunky sterling silver gothic jewelry encrusted with precious stones & sleek leather. Mitchell’s gothic sterling silver jewelry pieces are bold and substantial, featuring edgy, magnetic motifs such as skulls and daggers for the King Baby sterling silver gothic jewelry line, & relatively quieter feminine motifs & designs such as roses, alphabets, zodiacs & crowned hearts for fans of the Queen Baby jewelry label. Several themes feature in both collections, appealing to that ever expanding “chosen few”.

Venturing on a separate collaborative effort, King Baby jewelry also makes gothic jewelry for Nikki Sixx & Kelly Gray’s Royal Underground line of gothic silver jewelry.
